Support to Early Childhood Development and Education

Pre-schooling has the potential to help rural communities in West Nile to break free from intergenerational cycle of poverty. However, preschools are predominately privately-run and located in urban areas which put children in rural areas at a disproportionate disadvantage. In line with Uganda Integrated Early Childhood development Policy, 2016 WENIPS has supported pre-school education through an enterprise-based approach:

Increase food and income securities of households to enable them to provide nutritional and scholastic support for children in schools.

Using this approach, we have been able to turn around Mother Priscilla ECD in Atego Sub County, Nebbi District after the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

This was done through community mobilization and dialogues, agricultural value chain development, enterprise development, financial literacy training, and, support to local capacities, infrastructure, management, and leadership structures.
